Project brief
Website Performance & UX Audit
Using technical performance data and UX analysis to turn website friction into actionable recommendations.
I evaluated Airbnb, CNN, and Nike across technical performance and user experience, combining quantitative website diagnostics with qualitative analysis of navigation, responsive design, accessibility, visual hierarchy, and calls to action.
The goal was not simply to identify what was working or broken, but to translate those findings into practical recommendations for improving the digital experience.
ANALYSIS
Looking beyond how a website looks.
I evaluated each website across both technical and experiential dimensions. Performance metrics helped identify where loading behavior could create friction, while qualitative review helped assess how clearly and effectively users could navigate and interact with the experience.
- PERFORMANCE
- Speed Index · Largest Contentful Paint · First Contentful Paint
- ACCESSIBILITY
- Accessibility score · Alt text · Color contrast
- EXPERIENCE
- Navigation · Mobile responsiveness · Content hierarchy · Calls to action
TOOLS Lighthouse + qualitative UX review
FINDINGS
Turning diagnostics into evidence.
The audit surfaced different kinds of friction across the three sites—from slow loading behavior to accessibility issues and opportunities to improve how users move through content.
AIRBNB
- Speed Index
- 6.8s
- Largest Contentful Paint
- 14.3s
INSIGHT
The performance data indicated that large visual assets were slowing how quickly meaningful content appeared for users.
RECOMMENDATION
Optimize image and video assets to improve loading performance and reduce the time users wait for primary content.
Airbnb · UX findings
| Review area | Assessment | Observation |
|---|---|---|
| Task completion | Strong | Search and navigation filters made it straightforward to find relevant places to stay. |
| On-entry messaging | Needs improvement | A popup announcing prices inclusive of fees interrupted the initial browsing experience. Removing the popup would help users move directly into search. |
| Accessibility | 91 / 100 | The Lighthouse review returned an accessibility score of 91. The recorded audit did not flag issues with alternative text, headings, or keyboard navigation. |
| CTA clarity | Strong | Action-oriented prompts such as “Start your search” and “Stay in San Juan” provided clear, specific next steps. |
| CTA balance | Strong | A limited number of focused calls to action helped maintain a clear path through the page. |
| Button visibility | Strong | Bright pink buttons stood out against the predominantly white interface, making key actions easy to identify. |
Recommended next steps: Remove the entry popup and optimize image and video assets to support a faster, less interrupted browsing experience.
NIKE
ISSUES IDENTIFIED
- Performance concerns
- Missing image alt text
- Insufficient color contrast
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Optimize media assets
- Add meaningful alternative text
- Improve color contrast where needed
RECOMMENDATIONS
From finding to action.
The most useful audit findings are the ones that lead to a clear next step. I translated technical and UX observations into recommendations that connected each issue to a practical improvement.
| Finding | User impact | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Slow LCP / visual loading | Primary content takes longer to become usable or visible. | Optimize large image and video assets. |
| Missing alt text | Important visual information may not be available to users relying on assistive technology. | Add meaningful alternative text to informative imagery. |
| Insufficient contrast | Content can become more difficult to perceive and read. | Adjust color usage to provide sufficient visual contrast. |
Technical performance and user experience are not separate problems. Performance, accessibility, content, and interface decisions all shape how easily someone can use a website.
