Overview

This anniversary hub was designed to anchor a national campaign celebrating five decades of expanding access to civil legal services. As part of the web team, my focus was on research, testing, and maintenance.  I made sure this multi-purpose microsite would inform, engage, and inspire audiences ranging from lawmakers and grantees to the general public.

Our Goals

Increase Newsletter Subscribers

While we have an established audience on Capitol Hill and among legal aid professionals, we wanted to increase our engagement with the general public.

Increase Site Functionality

We wanted to incorporate new components that could be used across the site for different purposes, increasing our functionality and ensuring mobile accessibility.

Garner In-Person Support

We had at least 4 events planned across the country, but we resulted in 8 events throughout the year. We wanted to transform online to in-person engagement.

Project Contributions

Research & Benchmarking

  • Conducted a landscape review of advocacy milestone sites to inform layout, interactivity, and accessibility best practices.

  • Gathered feedback from internal stakeholders and user groups to identify must-have features: a secondary menu, interactive timeline, and versatile event cards.

  • Developed a site-map to organize assets across the hub's pages.

Component Testing & Design

Tested and iterated new navigation components, including an axis menu that improved user flow across eight distinct content sections.

Implemented feedback from communications stakeholders to ensure that interactive features functioned flawlessly across devices.

Provided accessibility QA, optimizing for both visual clarity and screen-reader compatibility.

Launch

Coordinated with the content and development teams to validate final site assets, events, downloadable toolkits, and media resources prior to going live.

Conducting post-launch audits and addressed user-reported issues immediately to assure final readiness.

Led rollout across phases to accommodate a compressed schedule as well as evolving stakeholder needs and media assets.

Directed site maintenance after launch, optimizing content and media for web traffic directed from social media and email marketing.

Key Features Enhanced

Event cards for clear, visually engaging presentation of anniversary forums, galas, and community actions.

Reflections

Supporting LSC’s 50th Anniversary Hub provided invaluable experience in web component testing processes for mission-driven organizations. I strengthened my skills in testing components for accessibility, functionality, and compatibility by participating in hands-on research, validating new features, and leading the project launch.

Gathering feedback at each stage and mediating between the communications and development teams proved essential for ensuring that each web component functioned reliably in a high-stakes, public-facing environment. This work taught me how thorough testing and continuous refinement contribute to both project success evidently, in-person action.
